Shown is a montage of different fly brains each with a labeled axon of an individual projection neuron (generated by using the MARCM technique). Projection neurons carry odorant information that originated from the periphery (antenna/nose) into the fly’s primary olfactory cortex (lateral horn) to regulate the sense of smell. Each projection neuron shown here is predicted to carry a distinct unit of odorant information.
